A thick mist cloaked the forest despite the later hours of morning. The air was chilly and a gentle breeze flowed through Little Pine Woods to ruffle the branches of the tall trees. For the most part a silence hung, but every so often it was interrupted by the steady steps of a short-haired blonde teen with some fox-like features. She took a deep breath through her nose, smelling the pleasant aroma of pine needles. Any needles that had fallen crunched beneath her running shoes and caused her to grow slightly worried that a passerby would hear her steps. Not everybody was friendly during the post apocalypse.
The fox-like girl had roused herself at dawn for a quiet stroll while her sister, she presumed, was back at the base. Naturally, Nyla had left her darling sister a note stating that she would be absent for some of the morning. She hoped Ines would remain at base and the teen knew that her actions for some alone time could lead to some unfortunate repercussions. Nyla would have to deal with the consequences later and silently pray that her personal time would not put Ines at any risk; if it did chances were she would stick to her little sister like super glue. Nothing or nobody was going to harm her sweet little Miel! As Ines' big sister, Nyla felt it was of the utmost necessity to fiercely protect her precious little sister from any harm, but even guards needed breaks.
Thus why she was strolling down a beaten dirt path where random sprouts of grass wormed their way up. A thin purple windbreaker protected Nyla's torso and arms from the cold meanwhile her legs were merely protected by a pair of tight black yoga pants that ended just before her ankles. Her nails were even painted a lovely deep red and lastly the typical red streak in her bangs had been created the day before. Sometimes she could help, but find herself worrying about petty things like her appearance in the dangerous new world. Her defense often times became boredom, what else could she do when she was not scouting or having a pleasant break day to relax any sore muscles?
While she walked, Nyla's ears remained pricked, searching for any noise that may come her way. Her yellow eyes began to absorb the sights since she had never once visited Little Pine Woods or her location of choice, Stony River. Most of her days were spent taking care of Ines and making certain her lazy uncle did not screw up. If Nyla had the nerve to and if it would not have created a bad impression on Ines, she would have punched the guy right in the jaw for his inexcusable ignorance and lazy attitude. It was malicious, but quite frankly Nyla could not care less about what happened to him or his lazy wife and should she find them there was a slim chance the teen would assist them. Providing enough care for herself and Ines was already difficult enough and adding two full grown, lazy adult to that list was not going to happen.
After a few moments of silent walking, the fox-like teen knew she was nearing her destination as her ears picked up on the sounds of slow-moving water. A smile crawled onto Nyla's face and she soon found herself lightly jogging ahead in excitement due to the plenty of rumors she heard about the Stony River being a pretty one. She broke through the pine branches and saw the sight that laid ahead of her. Fog encompassed the area, but the faint sunlight that managed to break through shone on the trickling river and caused the smooth rocks on the riverbed to glisten. Her face was awe-stricken, she had only seen such wonderful scenes in the paintings her parents showed her. For a moment, she surveyed her surroundings and noticed a log that had long fallen over by the riverbed. The smile remained on Nyla's face as she closed the distance between her and log.
She happily sat down, her tail gently swaying while her ears continued to scout for any possible dangers that may lurk. Her eyes watched the water flow by, the light that barely broke through the thick fog and the trees sway in the breeze. Nyla could not help, but give a sad sigh. If only she still had her sketchpad, she could have drawn a beautiful landscape and showed it to Ines, but unfortunately she had lost her final one when the apocalypse came. Her lazy uncle gave her little time to enjoy the wonders of art if it did not involve singing to earn some extra cash. The momentary frown at the thought soon faded, despite her lack of art materials there was no point in being sad. Thus, the teenager smiled and merely enjoyed the scene in front of her.

Zephyr was looking for herbs. He was often in need of fresh plants for his medicines, which tended to be a larger portion of his 'income' among the survivors, and he found that people were in need of a particular compound, not for treating wounds, but for...discouraging pests. And the best solution for that, was Hogs-wart. The plant's sap was essentially an organic acid, causing painful burns that even the most crazed of creatures would strive to avoid.
The problem was, it was exceedingly rare this far north, and tended to only grow along streams. The plant had always been considered a nuisance by people, but now it had a use, and was sometimes planted around the smaller camps.
He paused however, as a scent drifted to his nose. While taking a full shift lasted only a few hours at most, something partial like upping his olfactory power, could last a full day, and the scent on the air was odd to say the least. Certainly there was the Hog's-wart he was looking for, but the scent of what was likely a young woman, possibly with a pet, which was odd, was also there.
"Em, stay close. We dont know whats up ahead."
He advanced slowly, his bow not drawn, but an arrow knocked, just in case. His silent stalking allowed him to sneak up on wild animals, hopefully he wouldnt be detected by whoever this was ahead.

While Nyla sat on the rough surface of the toppled log she swung her feet back and forth. The scent of nature was strong around her and pleasant and the sounds of moving water was soothing. The blonde teen wished that she had decided to bring her sister along since this place was truly beautiful and allowed her to enjoy the view as well. It was quite wondrous and Nyla found herself mildly regretting not checking the Stony River out earlier when things were a lot safer. Everything seemed quiet, thus the teen figured she was safe to hum a little tune while she sat on the log. She began to hum the calming of Wander's Lullaby by Adriana Figueroa, a song that she enjoyed to sing to her sister to calm the young girl.
As expected, Nyla resisted the urge to utter the words out of fear that a survivor or mutated animal with malicious intentions would detect her. The soft melody of the song soothed her, causing her to lower her guard slightly and feel somewhat relaxed. The words entered her mind as she hummed the first stanza then moved on to the second, but after the third she fell silent. Her ears straightened and pricked to the sounds of a male voice, she missed the words due to her distracting humming, but somebody was there. Nyla flinched, a reflex created by her idiocy to lower her guard the slightest bit. What if Ines was around and put in harm's way due to this? There was uncertainty in the intentions of this mysterious stranger who was hidden from her sight, but should they be ill, she would have to act. The blonde was absolute that dying here would not bode well to the survival attempts of her little sister, which meant she had to work fast.
Without a second thought, Nyla slid down from her bench and opted to crouch down behind it. Her shoes found traction easily and the teen was capable of landing sturdy on the slick rocks. The blonde's left hand made sure that her body remained upright while her ears strained for more sound. She heard slow steps, the peculiar sound of tension on the stranger's unknown weapon. Nyla's left hand slipped into the depths of her pocket and retrieved her trusty pocket knife, the only reliable weapon the teen had been able to retrieve. She flipped the blade out, a gentle clicking assuring her that it was snapped in place. The noise caused her the flinch and she prayed that the slow moving river waters had disguised the sound. Nyla lowered herself further and pressed up against the log. The teen had never been in a fight before, but she would fight as hard as she could if the situation required it. She soothed her breath, taking in slow quiet ones and awaited the stranger's arrival with hopes that she would go unnoticed.

Zephyr paused. The sound of a metallic click had come to him, barely audible, but you get ambushed enough times you start to know the difference. Small blade. Pocket knife of some sort. Scent was...there.
He turned to the log, he could see it, barely, something...gold colored moving about. Only one. A girl. Amnd the scent of animal was coming from her...Hell, she was a mutant.
"i wont hurt you, so long as you dont hurt me...I'm just hunting for herbs."
He meant it, he wasnt one of those bastard raiders, or bandits, and besides, his experience with women was limited to selling them herbs, and twice helping with a birth. Maybe before Madman, that would have been something to be 'shamed' by, being twenty years old, and a virgin, but for Zeph, it didnt matter, surviving was more important, and besides, in this day? well lets just say contraceptives were the LAST thing people were thinking of when they though the world was going to end.

The handle of the knife was held tightly in Nyla's left hand to the point that her knuckles turned white. Her hand was shaking a tad at the concept of having to fight her way out of the forest to return to Ines. Physically she was more fit for running, not for brute strength and fighting. Her ears folded downwards, remaining close to her head as the blonde teenager thought about what was best to throw her possible opponent off. The problem was, she had not properly seen her presumed opponent, only heard his voice. She was not certain whether or not she would be capable of talking her way out, but for now she felt slightly safer with the reliable pocket knife in her grip.
When the voice began to spoke again, Nyla's ears lifted slightly to listen. The fellow survivor did not appear keen on fighting considering he mentioned genuinely that if she brought him no harm she was essentially safe. The fox-eared teen hesitated a moment as she thought over what the stranger sounded like and began registering whether or not he was a threat. A quiet sigh escaped her lips, she had a better chance trusting him in order to avoid a possibly deadly skirmish. Her ears pointed up and she planted her hands on the log, pocket knife still remaining clenched, she peeked over.
"You promise? Cause it would be totally bogus if you were lying to me right now." It was the only response Nyla could come up with as she finally laid eyes on the mysterious man with a bow in hand. "Oh yes, and having a bow in hand makes ya completely nonthreatening to the girl who only has a knife," Nyla remarked sarcastically. Probably not a good thing to do when somebody is bargaining to keep piece, but being outspoken and sarcastic tended to create these moments.
For a moment, she debated informing the mystery man that should he kill her that a little girl would die, but decided to wait a little longer. There was a chance that the man hated kids and would do anything to make certain another dies; although this was likely Nyla being a little paranoid. She remained in a crouch, making certain she still had some definition of cover should the man decide the shooting was a better choice. Thus she took the chance to analyze him and began to register in several physical traits the man possessed, since there was a chance if this did lead to a brawl that she could have an advantage. However, when people randomly get powers it was terribly difficult to thorough discover all strengths and weaknesses of a person. Her mind so ventured back to what he said, it was something about herbs. Being a little bit of a nerd she had randomly researched into some when she grew bored and actually had spare time.
"You said something about herbs, right? If ya don't hurt me, I might be able to help ya out. I am a pretty smart cookie and know a few. Nyla offered, putting a little persuasion in her voice. "You won't owe me anything else either. Free help seemed like something most people would leap at, or at least Nyla was pretty certain they would. Her yellow eyes remained on the stranger while she waited to hear what he would say.

Zephyr raised an eyebrow.
"The bow is in case YOU decide to be hostile. Its not the kind of world you can lower your weapon just because a cute girl is the one in front of you."
He said it casually, she was definitely cute, but he meant it more as a point of 'it doesn't matter who they are, they can still be dangerous', than as a flirtation.
Of course the black fox beside him was not too keen on him showing a female ANYTHING more attention than her. Her vengeance was immediate, and flashy. She lit his pant leg on fire.
"Ember..." He stalked over to the stream and dunked his leg.
"Excuse the fox, she's bad tempered when she gets hungry. As for herbs, I'm looking for Hog's Wart, looks like a weed, if the sap touches your skin, burns and blisters like acid or flame. The settlements sometime use it to keep the Maras Beasts at bay."

There was absolutely no reason for Nyla to turn hostile, but she had to admit that the stranger had no possible way of knowing. Yet, he did not seem understand what she meant in her reasoning. Compared to him, Nyla probably did not stand a chance with her pocket knife and lack of strength, her being cute had nothing to do with it! Despite being mildly annoyed by the bow, the teenager decided to ignore the weapon and hope that it would not become a problem. The blonde noted the casual tones in his voice and merely guessed that flattery was not being used as a method to lower her guard.
"Ya think I don't know that? I'm not naive to think that a cute little girl could not bring some serious pain nowadays." Nyla muttered, she was feeling a little ruder today.
She settled her arms on the log, one of her fingers pushing the blade of her pocket knife back into its sheath. Another series of small clicks echoed from the knife as it snapped back into the cover. Even if this resorted to a brawl, it was unlikely she would win unless Nyla sprinted away. For now, she opted for a risky game of passiveness in hopes that peace would be an option and perhaps this mystery man would become one less survivor for her and Ines to worry about. The fox girl watched as the black fox, who seemed to be accompanying him, lumbered over to him and lit his pant leg on fire. Her eyes widened, but the stranger seemed indifferent to the actions of his animal and merely dunked his leg into the stream. Nyla tilted her head to the side, this was definitely an odd pair.
Nyla looked at the black fox for a moment. "As see, she wouldn't burn me as long as I give her space, right? Cause I've got somebody to look after and I would prefer if I didn't get burned. Plus, that would be pretty uncool having to deal with that." The teenager knew she could not risk injury, or at least very little if anything. Ines needed her and Nyla had zero plans to let her sister down in the dangerous post-apocalypse world. When the stranger began describing the plant, she thought for a moment. "Do you mean hogweed? I don't know if there is anything like that around here. Never really explored the wilderness," Nyla asked.
The position she was sitting in was growing uncomfortable, thus the blonde decided she should stand. It would be easier to escape should it be required if she standing after all. Nyla rose from her crouch slowly, her tail swaying while she stretched her arms above her head and released a yawn. She shoved the knife into her jacket pocket, the teen could always retrieve the blade later if she deemed it necessary.
"Since I don't wanna end up in a skirmish, I'm going to trust ya," Nyla said, informing the man of her decision. She rolled her shoulders until asking. "Okay, so what else do you know about this plant? I did a project about this sort of stuff a long time ago, so my memory is a tad fuzzy about it." Then something came to mind, she was clueless to this white-haired stranger's identity just as he was to hers. "Oh, by the way, my name's Nyla. What's yours?"

He shook his head grinning. She was a ball of sass, and as she stood, he couldn't help but whistle at the sight of her tail.
"Thats a nice bit of fur you've got there. Names Zephyr Wolf, Zephyr is what my mom called me, before she died, and Wolf is the name i gave myself when i ran away from the foster home. I was fifteen, and thought it sounded cool."
He sighed as Ember gave a chirrup of distaste.
"Ember is fine, its only me she really ever tries to harm. Near as i can tell shes got human level intelligence, and shes the jealous sort."
He lowered his bow, and put the arrow back into his quiver.
"Hogweed is another name for it yes, It usually grows along streams like this, in marshy areas. Its got big leaves, looks a lot like a Burdock bush, only the leaves are on ling stems, and it doesnt have thorns or sticker balls."
He was of course mulling over the 'someone to care for' thing. Chances were, going by the scent his still alter nose was picking up, it was another girl, younger.
"I dont accept freebies. We can trade though. Help me find the Hogweed, and i'll help you with anything else you need. I take it you dont head for settlements because of the tail and ears right? Well, i can do that freely, and i can also tame some of the animals around here, make them less hostile. It would mean my coming back through every couple of days, but i think it would be worth it for you."

When the man whistled, Nyla could not help, but laugh and shake her head a couple of times. There were probably women who would have straight-up punched him and called it cat calling then walked away; or at least the women who thought all men were womanizing pigs. The teen on the other hand thought it a little ridiculous that she got whistled at for her tail of all things. She was starting to find her acquaintance to be rather neat considering he was also grinning at her sass filled remark. Perhaps friendship would spark from this.
Once her small giggle fit was over, Nyla looked at the man who introduced himself as Zephyr and even added a little backstory. "Well, Zephyr you're awfully lucky I don't get offended by a whistling at my looks. Also, thanks, I personally think it's pretty rad, better than some of the mutation you see out there nowadays." A smile was on the blonde's lips when she responded, this man was not too bad after. Nonchalantly Nyla added, "That's a pretty cool backstory you got. I only have the name Nyla Korvich and no absolutely awesome history behind it."
Soon the teen's yellow eyes wandered over to the black fox who made a noise that Nyla had never heard before. She liked foxes, but she had not once heard the noises they made, thus she looked at the animal with slight curiosity while Zephyr explained that she was practically harmless to everyone, but her master.
"A jealous fox? Huh, well at least I ain't gotta worry about burns I guess. That explains why you weren't bothered when he lit your pant leg on fire," Nyla responded.
It was pleasant to see Zephyr lower his bow, it was a sign of trust and a great relief on the fox-eared girl's mind. Naturally, Nyla could only presume that he had no intentions on harming her which was somewhat a positive sign. However, there was still the chance of unforeseen circumstance alongside the fact that she could not predict what Zephyr would do. She kept her guard up, ears pricked on alert and kept some caution about her. She may have stated that she trusted him, but that did not mean she trusted him completely. As Zephyr began describing the plant, Nyla nodded in acknowledgement and listened as he stated he did not accept freebies.
"Ahh, so you have some definition of honor. I mostly just avoid there since gifted get executed sometimes and should I get any of those radical abilities, I don't wanna get my head blown off so yeah. Plus, my little sister may develop them as well. Maras is pretty unpredictable since I don't know much about it and risking livin' in that settlement sounds terrible." The mutated girl began, until realizing she was rambling on about some random stuff, there was a deal at hand! "Anyways, that sounds good. Saves me trying to get all friendly with them."
Next she turned her attention to the hogweed Zephyr was looking for, and soon something popped into her head. Trout Marsh was around these parts, perhaps there would be a better chance of finding it there. "Stony River is well, as the name implies, but there is a marsh up around Trout Lake. Perhaps heading up there would be a little better, a few less rocks in those parts from what I know."
She gazed up stream, the direction of the marsh, and noticed that some of the fog had lifted and the wind had picked up a bit. Instinctively, she shoved her hands in the pockets of her purple windbreaker, feeling the pocket knife bump against her left hand. She ignored the weapon, and waited since she thought it best to hear what Zephyr thought of the idea first.

Zephyr shook his head chuckling.
"Wanna see something cool?"
He let his shapeshifting work and, with a little grunt of pain at the growth, a tail slid out of his back, and his ears became longer and reached up the sides of his head.
"Not as neat as yours, since they wont last long, but hey, we match now."
Only his ears and tail were black as his hair was white.
"As for getting your head blown off...well yeah they can be pretty paranoid over there, but given my Domestication ability, and the fact a lot of the animals around here like me...The rumors say i command the beasts, and i dont really argue against it, since it makes even the most violent among them worry the animals might seek revenge for my death."
Trout Marsh, he had heard of it, but it was supposedly dangerous.
"Hope you dont mind, but if we head that way, someone was attacked near there a few days ago, so im going to keep my bow ready. Given the injuries he had, i worry it was a human that attacked him, and Domestication doesnt work on humans..."
Well...it didnt work on rational humans...he had never really tried it on one of the mutants who had gone 'feral'.

Upon the mention of 'seeing something cool', Nyla began nodding her head. There was no telling what Zephyr could do, but so far he had managed to obtain her curiosity with what he had done. The blonde found him amusing since unlike most people, he did not seem bothered by her rude retorts. She watched as the acquaintance grew black ears alongside a tail. The smile on her lips broadened from the display and she clapped for no reason in particular, it was mostly because she could.
"That's awesome! I can't do anything like that. Nyla complimented before laughing and adding, "Now we're twinsies." She went to throw an arm around Zephyr's shoulders like he was a good buddy. If she managed to do so, she only remained that way for a few moments before backing up a bit; she had been told before she could be extremely energetic to the point where it annoyed people.
A nod of acknowledgement was given to the paranoid comment. They did execute anybody who lacked control in the Aimon Settlement which made the place disturbing to Maras effected population. Avoiding the entire settlement was Nyla's best idea to make certain they would never be a bother. When the blonde teenager was informed about the rumor, she gave a slight chuckle. It was an absolutely perfect way confirm that people would not plan your demise.
"Wow, that's really clever. Man, it seems the fox look suits you if ya think of stuff like that. Wish I had some rad powers, it would probably help protect Ines," Nyla commented. She hesitated a moment, he probably would not know that. "By the way, that's my little sis. She's a real cutie, only eight."
Trout Marsh was a topic that Nyla had not heard too much about any attacks there, then again she had not ran into many survivors. For the most part, her world revolved around the piece of sunshine in her life, Ines. The fox-eared teen realized that perhaps avoiding a lot of people was not the best option since she missed helpful tips like this. She began to turn in the direction of the marsh, her ears pricked and steadily drew her pocket knife for any emergencies.
She glanced over her shoulder at Zephyr. "Fair enough. Then I'll have my knife drawn and keep my ears sharp. Not sure if yours help your hearing, but mine certainly help me. Besides, as long as we're careful and it's only one person then I think we can manage. Or at least I hope so. As Nyla walked she thought for a second, she was capable of running fast, but what about her company? "Hey, how fast can ya run? Cause I'm capable of running pretty fast if we need to escape. The only problem might be the mud, so when we get there, try not to get stuck."
The teen continued walking down the stony bank of the river, her eyes glancing over at the clear waters while her ears kept vigilant lookout. Trout Marsh was severely muddy which meant it was probable that she would have to clean off a bit before returning to base. Making a trial of mud that led home seemed like a terrible idea and using the river was more resourceful than wasting any reliable drinking water at base.

Zephyr flinched only slightly when she wrapped her arm around him, but not out of fear of harm or anything...But because he still remembered the old days, when accidentally touching a female classmate could land him in hot water, as in, the hot water his foster mother would pour over his head if she even THOUGHT he was having dirty thoughts...
"Well, a sister huh? I was an only child, but well, i guess you could say animals are my family, they were before the Maras, and it makes sense they would be after. As for running? Well, i can do a LOT more than give myself ears and a tail. And its wolfy by the way, i can take the form or parts of the form, of any animal i have come into contact with. Very useful. And if we need to run fast, i can freeze the mud, not sure where that one came from, but yeah. I'm a walking A/C unit."
He followed her, arrow knocked, bow not quite drawn, but held firm and tight. Ember followed them both, scowling. Although she entertained no 'romantic' thoughts of Zephyr, she HAD claimed him as hers. He was her property. Her Servant as the humans called them.

In her peripheral vision, the blonde teen managed to noticed how Zephyr flinched, perhaps she was being a little too energetic currently; Nyla figured it would be an excellent idea to tone it down a bit. This man had seemed like somebody who could be a radical friend and the girl with fox-like traits did not want to lose a possible friend. Friendship was important nowadays and before the post-apocalypse arrived. Silently, Nyla composed herself and debated how exactly to avoid overdoing it. There was also the chance that close proximity with a stranger was probably rather awkward, but avoiding anything of the sort was the preferred route than facing a possible reprimand. The blonde did not bother with an apology, she somewhat carried a forgetfulness with the concept unless it involved Ines.
Nyla nodded, "Yep. Ines is like my little sunshine. I could not even imagine being an only child anymore, since I love having a little sister." As the blonde continued walking, she grinned. "Perfect! I played a bunch of sports before I moved to Nootau, but after three years here I'm still fit as a fiddle. As for being a walking AC unit, that sounds pretty rad and like it could get us out of jam should this marsh person comes to rue the day. Use to play hockey myself, so hopefully that will come in handy to bolt across ice, eh?" Nyla said, trying to avoid going into one of her rambles. This was a mission and rambles were not going to help much!
For a few moments, the blonde merely listened to the word around her. The steady sounds of their footsteps on the currently stony ground, the trickling of the river, and the rustling of wind through the pines. Every now and again, her fox-like ears would swivel as they searched for any possible noise. Her left hand kept a strong grip on her precious pocket knife while her ears continued to scout for sound. Strangely enough, Nyla felt as though she was some sort of superhero going on a dangerous mission where a villain could ambush them at any turn. The concept of it seemed to make the walking a lot more fun.
"I feel like some sort of hero on a possibly dangerous mission," Nyla said. She laughed a little afterwards, the notion was rather silly, however, it did bring memories of days spent with a pencil in hand and a drawing book settled on her lap.

Zephyr listened for anything himself, while also using his now much better nose to sniff for anything. He came to stop and made a sharp birds whistle, hoping it would bring Nyla to a stop as he intended.
He closed his eyes, allowing the wind to carry the scent that had wisped by him once, to do so again. Leather. Oil. Blood.
He drew his arrow taught. The scent of human blood, and blood rusted steel was coming from their left. And then the crack of a dry piece of wood under a heavy foot.
Zephyr didnt need to speak to whoever it was, to know their intent, the fact they were sneaking up on them, with leather soaked in human blood was all the indication he needed. He drew the arrow and bow up, and let the glass tipped arrow fly. the shriek of agony from a few yards into the thick brush let him know he hit.
"There may be more. And they smell like human blood. Take the hunting knife out of the sheath on my hip, it will do you better than that little pocket knife if we need to fight our way out."

Listening to the plethora of noises was Nyla's primary focused, but her secondary one was making certain her footsteps were soft. Ever since the alteration of her ears and the increased hearing that accompanied them had taught her the fundamentals of keeping her steps hushed. With pricked ears the blonde kept absorbing the sounds around her until she heard a bird-like whistle behind her. In reaction, her ears twitched slightly and her mind registered that the whistle was unlikely to be created by bird since Maras had mutated them into vicious winged creatures.
A glance over the shoulder and tension on a bow string confirmed her theory of it being Zephyr. He must have detected something that she had missed. Nyla moved to the side, making certain that she would not be blocking the arrow's future path. She retreated a few steps towards Zephyr just in case he lacked accuracy or simply made a horrendous shot. There was no words exchanged and the only noise became the ones of nature; even Nyla knew better than to utter a word during times of focus. The grip on the metal pocket knife tightened as she prepared for the possible fight to come. In silence, Nyla watched as the arrow flew and her ears pricked the sounds of a scream, the arrow had hit its mark. For a moment she gazed in the direction of where the arrow was shot until she heard Zephyr speak, who was offering a proper knife that made would put her pocket knife to shame in combat.
With a nod, Nyla closed the distance between them and drew the knife with her right hand while her left forced the pocket knife to pack up before shoving the weapon back into her pocket. A hunting knife would be more likely to withstand a fight than her crummy in comparison pocket knife. The fox-eared girl wished that she had better luck finding weaponry that was more reliable than the pocket knife she carried.
"Thanks," the girl said quietly.
With slow, cautious steps Nyla began to advance, her lack of combat experience causing her to feel a tad nervous, however, she refused to retreat now. The blonde had agreed to assist her acquaintance and besides that she would eventually need to learn how to fight properly. Some may debate that learning before a fight would be better, but fights were unpredictable at times and there was never a guaranteed way for how people may react. Gradually, the ground became softer beneath Nyla's feet, thus she began moving them with more care since getting stuck seemed like a bad idea. A sound barely uttered with her movements as the blonde made certain not to knock any brush while her pricked ears searched for danger.
