| B ay hadn't exactly enjoyed her time in the apocalypse. She had survived her time and avoided really spiralling into a void like she had seen some people do, but still she found herself sitting in the middle of a field for no reason other than to avoid her regular day to day.
The young girl had a very specific way of surviving in the apocalypse, and this way was more so that she would use her youth to her advantage and get people to pretty much help her and protect her without much prompting. Bay was good at what she did and oftentimes a few tears rolling down her childish chubby cheeks got people sympathetic and willing to help in any way they could. Bay still always ended up finding her way back to her tiny hovel and barricading the entrance for the night. It was starting to get awful without somebody really being there to speak to.
Like many times proceeding this moment since the apocalypse had come about, Bay thought about her brother and mother. They had been missing since the bombs had fallen and at this point Bay was just terrified that they were dead. She tried not to imagine that possibility though, instead she thought about the people who she had already encountered since then.
There were the people that had helped Bay in the bunker. They had all been very nice, but when the doors opened none of them really cared what happened to the single girl sitting alone. There had been the man who had offered Bay junk food and tried to 'comfort' her. She had tricked him of course, she hadn't actually been upset, but that was her entire play. If people thought that the tiny kid was upset then they would try to help for a short amount of time.
And on this particular day, she didn't feel like pretending to be upset for anybody's sympathy. In many ways she actually was upset today and real emotions were not something that Bay wanted to share with others. So she walked far out into this feild, despite the danger of any rabid mutated animals attacking her, and sat silently. It was at times like these that Bay realized what her manipulation got her, but that didn't mean she was going to quit. Survival came above all else.
Bay sighed quietly as she began to get to her feet. This alone time in the field was starting to get a bit sad and she figured she should probably go find some food before she went hungry for another day. As she stood up and turned a figure became evident, coming in her direction. Bay tilted her head as she considered this. Before then the only noise she had made to indicate any emotion at all was a her small sigh, but she knew quite a bit about controlling emotions.
In a split second large bubbling sobs were let loose from Bay and she sprinted towards the figure approaching. Hopefully this person was feeling particularly sympathetic and Bay could manipulate them easily enough, but if worse came to worse then she always had her backup. It was always about survival with Bay and this was how she did it.

Similar to a majority of the remaining people within the post-apocalypse world, Xeno did what he could to survive the hardships that came hurtling his way. Yet, no matter what happened, each day was a battle of survival. Working hard are vital. quiet moments were few and general everyday had some brand new hell to face. Whether it be a lack of food, fresh drinking water, a villainous or a vicious mutated animal, each day possessed its own problem. However, today was surprisingly silent for the archer and for once his reflexes were not required to kick in during the middle of the night in order to fend off some vicious creature.
Thus, today the white haired man had Alyx slung on his back and a freshly refilled quiver of arrows gently swaying on his right side. Wrapped around him was the navy cloak he often wore with its hood up and the rest trailing out in the friendly summer breeze. Xeno had lived in the woods since the beginning of the apocalypse, and despite the increased animal population it appeared to be a better choice than remaining in the city where other gifted survivors thrived; his powers were all passive. The man's long legs and speedy walking speed carried him out of the shelter of trees at a rather quick pace. Caution was necessity since his enhanced eyesight and razor sharp reflexes tended to catch movement or anything else quickly while his enhanced dexterity made it practically impossible for him to stubble.
It only took a few moments for Xeno to reach the edge of the trees where long grass sprawled far across a relatively flat clearing known infamously as Summer Breeze Meadow. Most of the stalks waved in the breeze while others had been trampled numerous times by both people and the wildlife in the area. For a few moments, the man stared and debated return into the safety if the familiar forest that bore more cover than the meadow for someone of his stature. However, his greatly improved eyesight narrowly cause a small human-like shape in the grass. Perhaps it was a mutated animal or maybe it was actually human and should it be the latter option then it was likely a child. Xeno watched for a couple more moments, weighed his options, debated leaving, then ended up feeling guilty at the notion. He had taught children archery before and hew remembered numerous tiny faces gazing at him with aw, but for once that was a bad thing since it made the man feel obliged to at least check if it was kid.
The white haired man shrugged and a small smile came upon his face, at least this would likely be an improvement from wandering the woods accomplishing nothing productive. Recklessly, Xeno began to walk through the knee-high grass towards the shape in the distance. Slowly, the gap between him and the creature closed to the point where the archer could tell that it was indeed a child. He watched her stand and was about the wave at her, up until the kid began bawling and sprinted towards him. The man had honestly not been expecting that, but considering this was the post-apocalypse he should have been. The kid was probably scared half to death and merely wanted somebody to help them out.
"Whoa, kiddo. Calm down, did somethin' happen to ya? Cause if it's one of those mutated animals I won't let it get ya," Xeno stated. He looked at the child, analyzed her and was assured that she was unlikely to be a threat. "Now, tell me what's wrong, kid. Maybe I can help ya out."
Each word was in Xeno's common nonchalant voice which likely made him sound like he was not remotely worried about the girl. In all honesty, the archer did care and felt bad for the young child, he merely did not show it. A gentle smile remained on the man's face, this little girl was absolutely adorable. It really made him wish he had a little sister growing up or that his sister, Carol, had a couple of kids. Unfortunately, that had not happened prior to the coming apocalypse and Xeno was fairly certain that a majority of people would prefer not to bring children into this hell. The man stifled a snicker as he thought of a rather vulgar joke since despite his nonchalant attitude, Xeno knew better than to lead onto the concept of a joke. People tended to dislike his human and he did not want to scar a kid for life with his accursed humor.

| U sually when Bay sprinted up to people crying they had some sort of huge reaction, whether it be defense or pity or suspicion or even violence, Bay could figure out a response to that, but this guy with white hair seemed to have very little reaction at all. It almost seemed as if he didn't care at all. It made Bay hesitate in her approach to him. She disguised it as hesitance to approach a stranger, but it was just this strange guy.
This guy's response was kind enough though. He seemed somewhat concerned for the crying child before him, but he still seemed to not have much of a reaction. She kept on blubbering, but kind of sniffled a little and slowed the fall of tears just a tiny bit. She stared at him with her large watery eyes as he spoke.
"W-well no I haven't seen any of the animals... but..." She sniffled slowly. Bay was pretty good at acting and as she looked around she tried to look a little sheepish. She turned back to him and frowned. "I got lost a few days ago and... and... I couldn't find and food... or a way home... and..." With that the tears started anew.
Bay figured that the guy wasn't dangerous, just weirdly unemotional, so she flung herself in to hug him. Hugs from a crying kid usually gained her some sympathy points and she guessed that even if this guy was a psychopath he couldn't kill a crying child. Even if he did decide to get violent then Bay could just like get a surprise punch in on him.
"I'm not even sure if m-my dad survived the forest cause we got lost and we split up and... and..." That was the cue for more wailing and large sobs. Bay buried her head in his chest and hoped that her manipulation was good enough to get her maybe some food or other supplies.

Keeping his nonchalant disposition, Xeno watched as the child ventured near. His observant eyes noticed the girl's hesitation which seemed merely as hesitation to approach him. A sensible choice to the archer considering nowadays anybody could dangerous, thus he stood silently waiting to view the kid's reaction to him. He kept a small grin that was meant to say 'I'm not a threat,' to the distraught child. The last event he wanted to occur was for the girl to run away because of her apprehension to him. The gentle tears rolling down the girl's face made a feeling of sympathy spark in Xeno, it was always sorrowful to witness a child cry after all. The large watery eyes sold the girl's case and made Xeno unaware to the manipulation he was falling victim to.
When she began to look around, it suggested disorientation to the archer; even the look upon her face suggested it. He nodded when the girl mentioned being lost, a small frown broke his nonchalant attitude when tears began to flow down the girl's cheeks. A mild look of surprised mixed into Xeno's face when the girl hugged him, like most childless adults he was not use to random children hugging him.
"Hey, hey, it's alright, kid. I could probably help ya out with both yer problems, so ya came to right forest wandering stranger in this case." Xeno stated, flashing another smile. He was certain he could assist this little girl!
The little girl only seemed to get more distraught once she mentioned her father and how they got separated. It made Xeno's heart ache, his own father had gone missing during the beginnings of the apocalypse, thus he could somewhat relate. When she buried her head in his chest, Xeno knew he was determined to help this kid out. Gently, the archer patted her back in an attempt to calm her. It would probably be easier to help the little girl out if he could actually talk to her without her crying.
"There, there. Listen here, I'm probably one of the best trackers around. Heck, I know I am. So, I might be able to track down yer pops and if not, then I can at least round up some grub for ya." He sounded a tiny bit arrogant, but the white haired man never noticed his own conceited tone. "Name's Xeno by the way. Now, can ya tell me your name, kiddo?"
He figured starting with a name was an excellent idea; the girl would likely be a lot easier to work with if Xeno could call her by name.

XD Well, he wouldn't be offended since he is the most nonchalant guy. |
