For the most part Dexter is average, very average. He isn’t overly muscular, making him weak in physical situations. In certain lighting his hair can look a reddish-brown or even a rather bright red color. His hair is rather straight and is often rather messy since he doesn’t care much for physical appearances. Dexter’s eyes are a dark blue, but most people don’t notice since he wears goggles to protect his eyes from bright lights. The goggles he wears has amber tinged lenses which is one of the reasons why his eye colour is often a mystery. It’s very uncommon to see Dexter out during the day since the light bothers his eyes a lot, thus he’s often out during the night and can be found in darker places. People can sometimes see him smoking.
personality
Dexter is a rather intelligent individual who does what he has to. He’s a hard-working guy who often works efficiently in hopes and getting in and out of wherever he may be. Most people would find that he tends to be a bit fidgety when it comes searching buildings, heck if he could he would move constantly. Despite his parents being rather social, Dexter is very much an introvert and rarely associated himself with other people. When the apocalypse hit Dexter became very independent and his nocturnal sleep schedule just gave him another excuse to avoid people. Considering Dexter was a lazy lowlife before the apocalypse and has transformed into a hardworking and efficient survivor it’s easy to say that he’s capable of adapting to current circumstances.
Most of Dexter’s flaws branch from his introvert ways. He’s not well adjusted to thinking about the feelings of others or cooperating which often makes him infuriating to work with. He can be blunt and even a tad bit sarcastic which makes a lot of people begin to dislike him. Dexter can be extremely stubborn and often won’t budge on certain ideas if he doesn’t want to do it. He can be rather rebellious towards authority figures and has some problems taking orders; thus another reason for his preference of working alone. Dexter often makes up for these flaws with his bravery and quick thinking attitude. Strategy is a game that Dexter can play and he’s very smart about what he does and even where he gets loot from. Although it may not seem like it, Dexter is pretty nice and would help people who are in need, however, he would probably still keep his caution and closed off attitude. Since he often has a severe lack of friends he can be trustworthy with secrets. Not to mention being an introvert for most of his life has made him observant and very good at thinking things over alongside sorting out his emotions. He has a steely determination to get the job done right and tries his best not to take unnecessary risks.
On the off chance people do get close to Dexter they often find that he’s very relaxed and loyal to his very few allies. He tends to talk more in smaller groups and feels very uncomfortable around large groups of people. When it does come to allies he will be very protective of them since Dexter knows that allies can be hard to find, not to mention not many people are able to put up with him. On most occasions Dexter is more patience with allies than strangers, in fact a majority of the time he finds strangers to be intolerable and unpredictable. Thus his tension around people he doesn’t know too well.
Dexter tends not to trust people very easily and he often holds grudges should somebody wrong him. It can at times take months for him to trust someone and until then Dexter is often keeping a cautious eye on said person. Meanwhile he can hold a grudge for a very long time and on rare occasions he can get a tad vindictive, but this usually only happens if something incredibly bad happens. If Dexter is mad at somebody it’s pretty easy to tell since his tolerance for said person plummets and he tends to snap at them a lot.

Dexter can see in the dark. He’s unable to stop his night vision, so unfortunately he has difficulties during the day. This often requires him to wear something to protect his eyes during the day or else he’ll feel pain around the edges of his eyes.

Although Dexter can’t necessarily see darkness, he of course knows it’s there and is able to sense it. This developed into allowing him to control it. He can make darkness into solid weapons, condensed mists and shields. However, this does consume energy, thus if he doesn’t rest he can have difficulties controlling his powers. When he lacks control this can mean that the darkness under his control will act out or do absolutely nothing. Sometimes the darkness he controls will move slower if he’s tired. When Dexter is in bright places his Umbrakinesis tends to weaken significantly and he needs to use more energy to create darkness. Dexter is also capable to teleport in a way by phasing through shadows and coming out through other shadows, however, this takes significant energy. Usually when he comes through he tends to feel dizzy and stagger quite a bit. He can phase anywhere in a two mile radius, but the shadows he goes through must be taller and wider than him. Dexter can bring other people along, but this takes more energy to the point where he may need help walking.

On December 23rd Dexter was born to a wealthy family that lived in Nootau for their entire lives. His parents loved him and often adorned him with attention whenever they could and considering Dexter was an only child he was rather spoiled. Since his parents traveled a lot Dexter got the chance to travel the world a lot when he was younger. His parents were rather protective of him when he was young since they were a little paranoid about the idea of their son being taken while he was young for the sole reason of their wealth. This made it awfully difficult for Dexter to make any long term friends since his random absences often drove wedges between him and other people. He even tended to think that he was simply never meant to have friends, thus he became a massive introvert despite the fact that his parents were social butterflies.
Around when Dexter was 7 he was often withdrawn and distracted by video games and education. Most of the teachers showed consistent concern about Dexter’s outsider like behavior and attempted numerous times to make him more social, but it never worked. The reason for this was that Dexter’s parents were major enablers around this time and if Dexter didn’t want to do something he didn’t have to. Most of Dexter’s day were spent lounging around and sometimes spending a couple of hours with the very few kids that he considered to be on good terms with. As he grew older he simply continued lacking work ethic and when the time came for his parents to push for him getting a job it began to get interesting.
Dexter was around sixteen when his parents insisted that he started getting a job and working for himself. They had some powerful strings that they could pull to get their son some well-paying jobs, but the problem was that Dexter skipped work multiple times. He lacked any definition of work ethic and often spent his time hanging around a rather bad crowd. At this point Dexter’s life became plagued with criminal activity like vandalism and theft which made him rather disreputable. He was simply a lowlife that only took things like his education seriously and rarely tried to work hard to earn anything. To make matters worst, Dexter was often the one planning these criminal activities.Thus, Dexter began getting grounded a lot which started his issues with being told what to do. His parents for the most part were at a lost and had absolutely no clue how to solve the problem.
For four years they tried stern talks and empty threats, but nothing seemed to work to get their son to clean up his act. There were points when Dexter’s parents even debated sending him to military school in hopes that the strict instructors could fix the problem, however, the problem was abandoned since his parents felt like it would be a form of betrayal. On one November night Dexter got caught breaking and entering. His friends had ditched him to escape which left him at the scene to get arrested. His parents were friends of the people who they tried to steal from so thankfully he was let off the hook, but Dexter’s parents were reasonably livid. They yelled at him a lot, taking no mind that their son was a 20-year-old adult, but the point was that he almost had to face jail time. Unfortunately after the incident his parents had to go on a business trip, thus they hired somebody to watch their troublemaking son.
While his parents were gone it was essentially house arrest since his supervisor never let the young man out of his sight. If Dexter so much as attempted to do one bad activity he would receive a terrible punishment. Soon the house arrest turned more serious when the political tensions began to rile up and the threats of Madman were thrown. At that point, Dexter decided to listen to his supervisor since they seemed stressed about it. Then the day the siren went off came and panic swept through the household. His supervisor had to get groceries and told him to stay put for obvious reasons, and Dexter wasn’t in the mood for punishment so he disgruntledly obeyed. The streets were congested and Dexter knew that getting to the bunker would be impossible, thus he decided the best course of action was to try his luck. It was after all risk going on the streets and go mad from Maras or stay in his own home and do the exact same thing, but with less chance of death.
For a while Dexter hid in the basement, presuming that it was the best place for him to hide for the time being. The earth rattled and items fell from their shelves or toppled over entirely to the point where a particularly heavy one landed on his head and rendered him unconscious.
When Dexter woke up everything was calm and he’d managed to only suffer a couple of cuts and bruises. He was surprised to find that his thinking was at most foggy from being conked on the head by a heavy object. After a few moments of listening he wandered upstairs, which was difficult due to some of the damages, and found something strange. Rays of light filtered through the curtain and whenever they touched his eyes there was pain. The pain was behind his eyes and irritated him to the point where he closed the curtains. After this he decided it was best to remain in doors for the day to see if his supervisor would return. A majority of the day was spent in fear alongside worry for his parents who were away. The next day things began to develope when Dexter woke up to find that his dark room seemed lighter, almost like light was already filtering in. The problem was the curtains were drawn closed which caused Dexter to freak out. It didn’t take long for Dexter to realize that he was capable of seeing in the dark.
After a few more days his abilities developed further and he was able to manipulate the darkness around him and even create small shadows. A part of Dexter was slightly afraid of himself since this unpredicted change brought forth a whole new set of weaknesses. Leaving the house became increasingly difficult since the sunlight bothered his eyes, but he managed to view the destroyed city in the safe cover of night. Around this time it became blatantly clear that his supervisor would not be returning and that if he didn’t get his act together he would most certainly end up dead. For hours Dexter dug around the house trying to figure out how he could leave during the morning without the irritating pain surfacing. He found a pair of undamaged goggles which seemed to help make the pain more tolerable, but Dexter found that looking into lights were a real pain.
Due to the apocalypse, Dexter got himself together and adapted to the changes he faced. His attitude changed from a lazy lowlife to a hardworking and efficient worker. The sleep schedule he once had adapted as well until he found himself sleeping during daylight and going out during night. Being an introvert, Dexter often kept to himself and worked independently and would often be uncooperative to anyone he came across. He often avoids the Aimon Settlement since he doesn’t have complete control over his umbrakinesis.

» Since Dexter traveled a lot when he was younger he actually managed to learn Spanish and French.
» Dexter oddly enough has a very strong sweet tooth. His favourite sweet is chocolate.
» Dexter often feels more comfortable in dark places than in light places, and this isn’t just due to his abilities. From the start Dexter disliked bright places since he was more visible and felt as though anybody could see him.
» Dexter absolutely loves anything to do with horror.
» Dexter is nocturnal and rarely goes out during daylight unless he is late to return home or if it’s about to fade.
» When Dexter is nervous it’s common to find him chewing on his lower lip.
