Vaughn James Mallori
MALE | DEMISEXUAL |
THIRTY | G. MUTANT |
appearance
Vaughn is a tall fellow with rather lanky limbs. The most peculiar feature when it comes to Vaughn is definitely his face considering a mask is permanently attached to his face. Essentially his face is a stark white mask with holes that makes it look like he is consistently smirking at people. This is unlikely to be the case considering that Vaughn acts like a gentleman. Unless somebody looks very closely, it is difficult to tell what colour Vaughn’s eyes are and whether or not he is smiling. Should somebody get a glimpse through the holes of what is truly under the mask, they would find that his eyes are a bright yellow, a creation of the Maras, and the skin beneath the mask is almost white.
Before Madman struck, Vaughn’s hair was a dark brown, but Maras has made it into an ash colour. On most occasions he wears his hair slicked back and he wears a black top hat with a red stripe. He always attempt to keep a professional air about him since he feels it is of the utmost necessity as a second-in-command of the Aimon Settlement. This often leads him to wear a red coat and brownish-red pants with a barely noticeable strip pattern to them. Often times he keeps two holsters around his legs that holds a pair of custom berettas. One is white while the other is black. When Vaughn walks there is a notable limp in his step due to an injury to his left leg. He often tries to walk straighter via his pain suppression, but at times his leg can get sore and force him to move more leisurely.

abilities
Pain Suppression --- Passive, Excellent Control
Unlike a majority of people, Vaughn is capable to suppress pain to extremes. Even insufferable wounds can be tolerated until he feels little to no pain. However, the more pain means the more power that goes into this. Gradually, this ability can wear him out and can only function for 1-2 hours, sometimes less, depending on how much energy has and the damage he has sustained.
Body Modification --- Offensive/Defensive, Decent Control
Vaughn is capable of modifying and reshaping his body for a period of time. He can increase his speed and strength to that of a man who’s more fit, it’s never anything supernatural. Weapons can be created by modifying his body and he can even alter his cells to be made into different substances. When it comes to adding to his body, Vaughn is very limited and can only make about half of his size. He’s only capable of modifying his own body and these modifications can only last about an hour, once the hour is up he will be rendered unconscious. Modifying wounded areas can make larger/worst wounds and even cause permanent damage if Vaughn isn’t cautious (thus why he has to limp nowadays). He can’t fix damaged areas and they will revert back after the time is up. Modified sections of his body can be more susceptible to injury even if they are made into another material. Dents in metal will usually become large bruises, knicks can vary from cuts to gashes and broken pieces mean that Vaughn has broken something. When a piece breaks off, it disappears and the modified section that has been broken returns to its normal form. The more tired he is, the more Vaughn has to push to get this ability to function, but this can come with repercussions. Pushing this ability too hard can leave Vaughn’s body very sore and can even go to lengths to leave the ability dormant for days. It’s even possible that Vaughn will be unconscious for days if he pushes it too hard. When it comes to changing the cells in his body, Vaughn is limited to how much he can modify.
Super Speed --- Passive, Decent Control
Vaughn is capable of moving faster than an average human being for a small period of time, usually about 15 minutes. Generally this power can increase the speed of all variety of movements, but it wears him down easily and should he run at high speeds it can cause pain in his injured leg. At times when running it can be difficult to slow down before a wall, which can end up with Vaughn crashing into it at high speed. Doing this also tends to make his muscles sore since they are not use to high-speed movement.
background
Vaughn was born and raised in Nootau to a family of average wealth. His parents were good ones and loved children, his good-willed older brother, Derek, serving as proof. Whenever their son needed attention, Vaughn received it. Life was generally quiet and pleasant, making most days a beautiful one spent in family. When Vaughn was young, he would always insist on helping his parents with any job they would give him, thus he matured quickly.
When Vaughn first started school he was popular with the other children and usually got invited to play. It went on like that until sixth grade when a new kid moved into the school. Vaughn still had plenty of friends, but the new kid was always alone which always caught Vaughn’s attention. Eventually Vaughn’s friends began an endless storm of gossip which began to annoy him constantly since he knew that they had no clue what the new kid was like. It took about two weeks of gossip until Vaughn found them to be insufferable. One day at lunch he abruptly stood up from the lunch table, which raised question from his friends, and moved to sit with the new kid. The kid seemed surprised to see Mr. Popular coming over to sit with him. The kid’s name was Leon and on that day him and Vaughn became friends.
For six years, Vaughn and Leon were very close to one another to the point where they spent a majority of their time together. Vaughn would never forget that Leon's dream was to enter law enforcement meanwhile Vaughn was clueless to what field he desired to enter. Leon had showed him the wonders of law enforcement, even convincing his father to let them shoot for a while, but it never truly stuck. Since Vaughn was excellent in theater, many people suggested acting, but he was always skeptical to the idea. Since his brother was working on becoming a teacher, some suggested the idea, but Vaughn felt the idea would be horrendous. He was great with kids, but felt he would not be the greatest at teaching kids.
Spring came and graduation would come shortly. Since the snow had dried up, him and Leon decided to head down to the baseball park so Leon could practice for an upcoming game. Vaughn got there on time, a constant achievement for him since punctuality and formal actions go hand and hand. When Leon was not around, he figured that his parents had held him up, thus he waited. Hours went by and Vaughn found himself still tossing a beaten up baseball in the air all alone. Feeling mildly annoyed now, Vaughn sent him several texts messaging asking where he was or if plans got cancelled. When there was no answer, he figured that he probably got grounded and headed home.
Immediately when he opened the door, his mother asked if Leon had met him at the park. Usually his mother would merely ask how it was, thus Vaughn in his confusion told her the truth. A worried look touched her face, thus he pressed her with a couple of questions. His mother explained that Leon had never came home after school and his parents had not been able to make contact with him since. This only caused Vaughn to fire off a plethora of questions, but most were answered with uncertainty. As the weeks went on, Vaughn was away from school as he attempted to help in the efforts to find his best friend. They turned up very little hints, the most concerning being that they saw Leon get beaten and taken away by a couple of masked thugs. There were two things that were confirmed, Leon was not coming back and Vaughn knew what career he wanted to do.
When high school ended, Vaughn went into a course on criminology in order to work in law. He decided it would be best to work as a private investigator since even in his high school years, Vaughn was not the strongest guy. Around this time, his brother had his daughter, Midori, but unfortunately lost his wife in the process. This caused Derek to become increasingly busy with work, which often times left Vaughn or his parents babysitting the young child. For the most part, Vaughn cared a lot about Midori and even when he had term papers due could not resist, but to watch the child. During his secondary schooling, he did date a couple of people, but nobody would really stick, thus there would be an agreement to break-up.
Years went on, and Vaughn graduated from post-secondary schooling and began his work almost instantly due to his high grades, which was something he had to work very hard towards. Midori was going to school around this time and her father was still rather busy, which made it so Uncle Vaughn was standing in for most father-daughter events. Vaughn loved his niece like a daughter and enjoyed spending time with her, even when he was a tad busy. It never once bothered him going to these various events in place of Derek, his brother was likely to be busy after all being a single parent. Then during one late summer, Derek was arrest due to allegations of him committing murder.
It was easy to say that Vaughn never believed the notion, but when his brother called him at work one day asking him to pick up Midori from school, it was clear something was wrong. Vaughn obliged and went to pick up his niece then called his parents to get the details. Soon afterwards it was trials aplenty and each appeared more grim than the last. Eventually after one of the trials, Derek got the chance to speak with Vaughn and begged him to take care of Midori since he had always been good with her and was already acting like a father to her. At first, Vaughn was not certain about the prospect, but agreed since he cared about Midori. It got to the point where Vaughn promised his brother that he would protect Midori no matter the circumstances. After a few years of court cases, Derek was given a guilty verdict and sentenced to life in prison and around the time, Vaughn managed to gain custody over Midori.
Once all was said and done, Vaughn devoted a small portion of his time to trying to prove his brother's innocence. It was impossible, but he tried nonetheless while fulfilling his duty to protect Midori. Eventually political tensions came in, and Vaughn felt the need to keep Midori nearby when he could. One day, Vaughn went to a theater rehearsal, making sure Midori was with him. The building was old and at times the doors got stuck in place. The windows were tiny and barred, which made escape unlikely should the doors jam. During rehearsal, the alarms went off and the doors just happened to jam to the point where they could not leave. Without much choice, they were forced to remain in the theater, but instead of keeping the grim atmosphere they continued acting. This caused some of the tension to ebb away, but all the while Vaughn felt guilty for bringing Midori to this prison cell of a building. When the bombs hit, everything shook and some of the floor caved in which knocked Vaughn out.
Eventually, Vaughn regained consciousness, but his head ached for obvious reasons and his entire body felt sore. He fought though the pain and stood. Once he returned to his feet, the pain seemed to lessen until it was almost nothing. His hands went to his face, finding the smooth texture of his theater mask still there, he was surprised it remained secure. Unfortunately, the reason so became clear when Vaughn could not remove the mask. Vaughn found Midori, he was glad that she was alright, then left the building. For a while they were alone in the post-apocalypse world and as the days went by Vaughn discovered his newly developed powers. One of the days, those horrendous mutated animals slammed hard into his left leg, causing it to break. He attempted to fix the injury with his body modification, but only made it worst. Around the time of his injury, he met up with a group of survivors.
The group seemed to expand daily, but seemed concerned over the concept of gifted and mutants, thus Vaughn was hush about his abilities. As far as the group was concerned, he was merely a mutant created by the effects of the Maras and it was all they needed to know. Days went on and the Aimon Settlement was established, which was where Vaughn decided to remain in order to protect Midori. He soon became a second-in-command of the settlement. When the idea of killing out of control mutants and gifted came to light, Vaughn was not certain. He had a good sense of justice and something about the senseless killing did not seem right, however, with everything tense he felt that disagreeing would be a death sentence. With hesitation, he agreed to the notion, barely fending off his desire to speak against the idea. Months went on, and Vaughn remained with the Aimon Settlement and kept his abilities a secret.
