DOMINIC JAY BENNET
MALE | BISEXUAL |
THIRTY | GIFTED |
appearance
Dominic is 6'1" and is average in weight. He would most likely be bigger if he didn't have such a great metabolism. There are no marks on his skin except for the few beauty marks that speckle his flesh. But other than that, no tattoos, no noticeable scars… nothing.
His eyes are the trademark gold-brown of the Bennet bloodline. The colour outlining his iris is darker than the rest of his eye, the iris becoming more gold as it gets closer to his pupils. Dominic's hair is a deep brown, resembling the colour of soil.
Does anyone love dressing as well as Dominic? He likes to think not. He'd be damned if anyone found him in anything other than formal wear. His famous look is black dress shoes, socks, dress pants, vest, and tie with a white dress shirt. If he's not in formal wear, he's in his pyjamas. They look rather ridiculous, most of them being soft pants with odd creatures and knick-knacks on them. If he’s in his PJs, there’s no doubt that he’s locked himself in his house to invent.
He is never without his pocket watches. If anything, he always has at least one on him at all times. The deigns of each one are different, as are the metals they're made with. Many will notice that some of these watches he keeps around don't make any noise, not even a soft tick to indicate it works.
personality
If Dominic could be described in two words, they would be "charmer" and "thinker". He never showed his true intelligence when he was younger since he was labelled the prankster between him and his twin brother, Erik. But as the years went on, he began to nurture his brain more and more. He is a great analyst who is open minded to new ideas. His logical way of thinking has not dampened his creativity which has helped him in his career as an inventor.
Despite having his own thoughts and ideas, Dominic is open to new theories and thoughts of a logical stand point. When it comes to emotions, however, Dominic seems a little inept. He doesn't understand emotions as well as most people and it often takes a lot of explanation before he really understands what is going on. However, this doesn't mean he doesn't understand emotions. With his sympathy, he is able to charm and manipulate people where he sees fit. But if you're his friend, he's more apt to understand you and give great advice when needed.
If there's one thing Dominic has a lot of, it's enthusiasm. He's enthusiastic about a lot of things and reacts explosively when he's excited. He's also very straightforward and blunt, not allowing any room for misunderstandings. He values the truth above all else; he expects his truth to be accepted with appreciation, and also reciprocation. This could, of course, lead to hurt feelings. But Dominic wouldn't intentionally hurt someone.
He loves people and talking with them. Their ideas and viewpoints are so interesting and add to his own. Plus, who else is he supposed to bounce ideas off of? Talking to himself would look too crazy.
If Dominic looks absent, he is. His mind wonders and he won't always pay attention to what's going on around him. This is especially true when he's hyper-focused on a particular idea. When he's infatuated with a new thought he’ll become forgetful and aloof. In these states, Dominic also becomes insensitive since he finds emotions distracting and will disregard them to keep on track with his thought process.
Dominic prides himself in his intelligence so much that he can be condescending when other people aren't on his level. If someone doesn't understand his rationale right away, he will become annoyed and either explain what he means in a rude tone, or he'll simply tell his conversation partner to"forget it" and move on with his life.
Guidelines? Rules? They aren't important. Dominic will do whatever it takes to seek out the truth or finish his inventions even if they are against any social or legal code. He can't stand being held back and so has learned to become secretive to get past these rules.
What's Dominic's number one weakness? Self-doubt. He remains open to as much information as he can that he doesn't often come to decisions. When he does, he'll second-guess himself every time. His indecisiveness can frustrate people he keeps close to him.

background
Dominic was born a couple of minutes after his twin brother, Erik. The two of them were inseparable from the start. Dominic looked up to his brother immensely, always following him around and willing to do what he said. However, Dominic wanted to be as noticed as his brother was, so turned to pranks and other foolish behaviour to become known. Many think he did so since his brother was known to be quite clever and Dominic didn't want to be overshadowed; he wanted to be better at his brother at something… anything. This worked for a while, but often caused his brother to either roll his eyes or laugh. Either reaction was good to him.
As the two got older, Erik became more and more distant as the threat of the madman bomb came to light. Dominic tried desperately to get Erik to come back to him so they can be the best of friends like they once were. He would tell him things like "there's nothing to worry about" or "do you really think the government is dumb enough to launch it?" But nothing he did or said brought his dear twin back to him.
Then came the day the madman bomb dropped. Erik began to show capabilities in fire manipulation as well as teleportation. He was a showcase of the full extent these powers could take someone. Erik went rabid, killing anyone in his way. Dominic tried desperately to reason with his dear brother, but nothing worked. Erik just tried to kill him as a result. Members of the Aimon settlement took matters into her own hands when Dominic failed to kill Erik.
After his brother's death, Dominic fled into the Iona forests. The loss he felt was too great, and he feared that one day he would turn into his brother. It was as if a part of him had been ripped from his life and destroyed. How could he keep on living the life he was and pretend everything was okay? He had to go and find a destiny for himself.
He travelled. That's all he did. Travelled and began to think. Dominic discovered he was really good at thinking, just as his brother was, and thought more and more. He'd do puzzles and other activities to challenge himself. Eventually, he realized he could forget all his pain and loss with thoughts.
He thought and thought and thought until his emotions became nothing more than an inconvenience. Eventually, he came to a point where emotions made no sense to him, why would anyone waste their time with them when they covered up logic? Dominic also became quite obsessed with the truth. The truth of how mutations and abilities were being unlocked in people was incredibly interesting, and he had to know everything there was to know.
